A Gift For Her Zodiac Sign? – Blue Topaz and Tanzanite Jewellery, Behold The December Gemstones

The blue topaz and tanzanite are the brightest and most vivid stones of all the zodiac birthstones.

Tanzanite, a 1000 times rarer than a diamond, with only one source in the world around Mount Kilimanjaro. It was after a bush fire and research shows it was a geological phenomenon and there is less than a million to one chance of it happening again. It was named Tanzanite by the vice-president of Tiffany, Mr H B Platt after it was discovered in Tanzania. The ancient people believed is released Chakras from the heart. It brings compassion and serenity to the mind of the wearer. Although a more recent find the Tanzanite has enjoyed coverage as the heart pendant worn by Kate Winslet in the epic film ‘Titanic’ with Leonardo Di Caprio.

The colour naturally occurs from violet hues through to intense deep blues and it’s cut is important as with a diamond it emphasises the light and colours from different angles. The rich blue colour is rarer than the violet colour and the price reflects this. Tanzanite has the same 4c’s we look at when considering a diamond; colour, cut, clarity and carat. The larger the stone especially in the deep blue colour the more prized due to the rarity of a large intense blue Tanzanite. It is expected that the supply of Tanzanite will end in the next decadewidth=500

Blue Topaz

Naturally occurring, the translucent blue topaz is believed to stimulate the mind and help concentration. A semi-precious gemstone and is believed to have connections with the moon’s cycle. In Hindu it is one of the scared stones of the Kalpa tree. A symbol of love and good fortune and with its beautiful shade of blue is an affordable gemstone. Blue Topaz is the most popular colour and has a fine lustre although Topaz arises in more colours; yellow, orange, grey and black. Blue Topaz gives a cool, modern edge when set in icy white gold, silver or platinum. In the summer, the warmth of yellow gold set with blue topaz evokes thoughts of the sea and sand with a more relaxed feel.
