Bridal Jewellery Trends: Spring-Summer 2018 Update
With all the preparations in full swing for Biagios Spring Wedding Event coming up on the 19th – 24th March, we thought we would share whats trending in the world of wedding and bridal jewellery for Spring-Summer 2018, starting with rings.
First up, for those of you not quite at the wedding planning stage, but potentially about to become affianced, you may want to start popping pictures of these lovelies underneath your soon-to-be betrotheds nose (whether youre hinting toward the ring youd like or trying to gauge your loved ones reaction to various styles).
Never Not Diamonds:
1.4 ct Pear Cut Diamond with Diamond Halo & Diamond Set Shoulders
Diamond Trilogy Ring with a 0.5ct Emerald Cut Diamond, flanked by two 0.2ct Emerald Cut Diamonds
Yes, diamond and yellow gold trilogies were almost inevitably going to be on the rise after Miss Markle showed off her diamond trilogy late last November and why not? This is a classic, elegant style thats never going to date and wont clash with anything worn. And diamonds are certainly still high on the engagees agenda, despite the growing interest in alternative stones and styles. The last few years has seen several A-listers pick emerald cut diamond solitaires and were now starting to see oval and pear cut diamonds climbing.
If you hanker after a classic sparkler, but like many young couples, need to save as many pounds as possible for somewhere to live, then were also seeing a trend for diamond dupes like moissanite, white sapphire and white topaz rings.
Pastel Palette:
Round Aquamarine with Diamond Halo & Diamond Set Shoulders in 14ct Yellow Gold
18ct Rose Gold & Morganite with Diamond Halo and Diamond Set Shoulders
9ct White Gold & Blue Topaz with Diamond Set Shoulders
Milder temperatures and bright sunshine have arrived, finally heralding the entrance of Spring and with it comes a new palette of delicate, romantic muted shades. Brides looking for something unexpected will find themselves much admired this season if they pick a softly shaded stone like aquamarine, pale green sapphire, morganite or a lighter toned swiss blue topaz. Light blue and yellow gold pairings look set to be the ultimate for instagrammable proposal pics, but think of the colours of a fresh spring morning or better yet, a pile of macaroons, and youll be as pretty as a picture in your new engagement ring.
Stacked Sets:
This a trend weve seen growing over the past couple of years, where brides (and some grooms) are choosing to buy an engagement ring, wedding band and eternity ring in narrower widths to be worn stacked together or separately as the mood takes them. Sometimes all three are very similar, either designed as a matching set or just closely related and other times the wearer opts for three mismatching styles, but with one or two elements that bring them together. Perhaps all three are set with diamonds but each in a different coloured metal for example?

Minimalist:
Decorous and vintage designs are still de rigueur and we cant see them fading away anytime soon, but there does seem to be a movement towards cleaner lines and unfussy shapes in many areas of style and jewellery is no exception. But minimalist doesnt have to mean mundane, the new minimalism keeps overall shaping simple but uses mixed metals, textured finishes and subtle stones to excite.
Hammered and wood grain finished are big for mens wedding bands and two-tone strips and settings are popular. One partner might adore rose gold, while the other finds it too sweet, so why not have an almost matching set made that combines both metals, where one is mainly set with rose gold but also makes use of white gold and this combination is reversed in the other?
For the purist, theres always the plain metal band and theres something to be said for this style. It will never let you down, gracefully growing old together down the years. It may never be haute-couture but it will certainly never be old-fashioned either.
