Biagio Engagement Stories
Daniel and Vanessa
We took a trip in August 2015 to Wales to celebrate being together for 2 years, and we climbed Snowdon! At the very top Daniel got down on one knee and asked me to marry him. He had hidden the ring in his boot and a champagne picnic in his rucksack.
We took a wrong turn on the way back onto Crib Goch. It’s probably worth mentioning I am fairly scared of heights and this is the most dangerous decent of all the routes. We didn’t know this until we researched it later so we continued thinking it was the Pyg Track. Things were quite hairy but we were on cloud nine with a head full of bubbles! As the decent got more and more difficult Dan had to support and encourage me through. In the end he took control and navigated us to the Pyg Track via his own route!
The ring is 18 carot gold with a stunning diamond, and diamond encrusted shoulders. Dan chose it himself months before the proposal and had been making frequent visits to pay it off.
Dans boss Malcolm Tipping had recommended he visit the shop when Dan opened up to him about his plans, from then on he has a great relationship with the staff especially Tracy. I finally got to meet her when we came in to get the ring resized. We met again when Dan bought me diamond earrings for my birthday.
Polly and George
Our first date was in the Botanical Gardens in Sydney on November 18th 2012 where we first properly met whilst living and working in Australia post university. So it was fitting that George proposed in South Africa in the Capetown Botanical Gardens on January 27th 2016. George works in the horticultural industry so botanical gardens hold a special meaning.
George had bought the ring in December but had been planning the proposal for a couple of months, after meeting with Pollys parents and getting their blessing at Christmas time. It was a complete surprise, whilst on holiday with friends who were in on the planning. From sneaky girly talk about dressing up for the day and helping getting the ring through airport security.
The ring is stunning, with a secret diamond hidden in the band under the main diamond. Beautiful. It was chosen from the collection but tailored to suit Polly’s job and active lifestyle. It was important to support a local independent retailer. Also being friendly with Sharon, a staff member made it an obvious choice.
Sarah and Lee
On the ‘Wansdyke’. This is part of a walk that Sarah and her parents have been doing since Sarah was able to walk. I asked late in the day, just after a rainshower had- fortunately- passed. I asked here as it is a landscape that means a lot to Sarah. She has walked in it for her entire life and it’s a place that holds happy memories for her. It was also useful being close to her parents house for celebration upon our return!
Christmas eve 2015. It was nothing to do with Christmas but we were due to travel to Australia on Boxing day so it was a great opportunity to be near our families before we went away for a long holiday together.
I had initially planned to propose in Australia but on Christmas eve the perfect opportunity presented itself. Although this was a last minute change of plan, I feel that I made the right choice and Sarah loved how and where I asked. I had planned to ask for a long time and I had the ring made by Sharon and the team and Biagio’s Thame. It was difficult to not tell people, including Sarah, before I proposed!
The ring is a circular sapphire surrounded by diamonds, set on a platinum band (Sharon; you might be able to make that sound better!?). It was specially designed with the expert help of Sharon and included design choices such as an adapted nest to allow a wedding ring to fit next to it. I also chose the individual sapphire from a number of stones. Having the ring made added something extra to the ring and I felt proud to have chosen each detail on such a beautiful piece of jewellery. Sarah wasn’t certain on the type of rings that she liked but she does like sapphires and, luckily, she loves the ring!
Biagio’s was the local jewellers and, after visiting a few different jewellers, Biagios stood out. The atmosphere in the shop was great and it felt like the staff really cared about their work and their customers. It is this level of professionalism, pride and customer service that impressed me and I will certainly be using the shop again… next up will be the wedding bands!
Steven and Amanda
Our proposal was in Edinburgh at St Anthonys chapel. We wanted a secluded place overlooking Edinburgh. This was perfect.
I proposed to Amanda on Valentines day 2016. Amanda had walked past Biagio’s during her lunch breaks and really loved the jewellery. I suggested that we visited on a saturday just to have a look around. Whilst there we looked at rings and even got sized up for an engagement ring that we both really liked. I told Amanda that I would save the cash and order the ring when i had it. In the mean time I had raided my savings and placed an order for a platinum engagement ring with Biagios.
Amanda kept talking about the ring and was talking about how she was still walking past it and really loved it. I played it down as I wanted the proposal to be a surprise. On the way into Edinburgh we drove through Holyrood park to St Anthonys chapel. We climbed Arthurs seat and when we got to the chapel I got down on one knee.
Amanda walked past the Jewelers and was really keen on all of the Jewellery you stocked. I mentioned maybe finding another ring from somewhere else. Whilst she said that she that would be okay, she really loved the Biagios ring!
